The quote "Who controls the past, controls the future" suggests that those who have the power to shape or manipulate historical narratives also have the ability to influence the direction of future events. By controlling the way history is remembered and understood, individuals or groups can shape the beliefs and values of future generations. This can be seen in the way that governments, institutions, and individuals use history to justify their actions and influence public opinion. Ultimately, the quote highlights the importance of critically examining and understanding the past in order to shape a more just and equitable future. **

The choice between past simple and past continuous depends on the specific context and the action being described. Use past simple to describe completed actions or events that happened at a specific point in the past, such as "I went to the store yesterday." Use past continuous to describe actions that were ongoing or in progress at a specific point in the past, such as "I was watching TV when the phone rang." It's important to consider the duration and completion of the action when deciding between past simple and past continuous. **
